Despite an increase in the number of trucks sold in fourth-quarter 2019, Ford Motor Company said the total sales of its vehicles declined by 1.3 per cent.
“Ford truck sales for the year, including pickups and vans, climbed 9.1 per cent with more than 1.24 million trucks sold. In Q4, Ford’s overall truck sales closed strong, increasing 15.9 per cent. It was Ford’s best overall Q4 truck sales result since 2001,” a statement from the American vehicle manufacturer said.
In particular, the company said its F-Series truck registered its best sales results since 2005, with 986,097 units sold.
“America’s best-selling brand for the past decade is on a roll. F-Series celebrates 43 years as the country’s favourite truck and 38 years as its overall vehicle, and Transit stood at the top of the van podium again,” Ford Vice-President — US Marketing Sales and Service Mark LaNeve stated.
Another positive, Ford reported that the sale of its sport utility vehicle (SUV) Expedition had its best results in over a decade, posting a 71.6 per cent jump in sales in fourth-quarter 2019.

Notwithstanding, the increase was not enough to salvage sales figures in the company’s sport utility vehicle portfolio, which fell by 4.1 per cent. In total, Ford sold 208,387 SUVs for 2019, compared to 217, 373 last year.
The company’s motor car portfolio had an even more paltry performance as the sale of vehicles in that class declined by 41.0 per cent.
However, the company’s head of marketing, sales and service is upbeat about the coming year.
“We promised a winning portfolio and that’s what we’re delivering with more on the way, including Mustang Mach-E, an all-new F-150 and the return of Bronco. It’s going to be an exciting year for new products at Ford,” LaNeve promised.
Among the number of vehicles which had their performance during the quarter are: Ford F-Series, Ford Transit minivan, Ford Expedition SUV, Ford Mustang, and Lincoln Aviator SUV.
