The affected cars include the Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class, E-Class, CLK-Class and the CLS-Class, made between 2001 and 2011, it said Saturday (January 4).

According to Mercedes-Benz, the luxury vehicles came with an optional sunroof and the bonding material on those sunroofs can deteriorate over time, causing them to detach and become potential hazards on the roads, according to the United States’ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The cars are said to cost between US$30,000 and US$75,000.

Those affected will be contacted by Mercedes on or after February 14. The German automobile giant said the sunroofs will be inspected and replaced if necessary, free of charge.
