Eduardo Camavinga is on the shortlist of La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid as both teams eye the Rennes FC holding midfielder to bolster their defensive lines.
Rennes have moved quickly to deter both Barcelona FC and Real Madrid from wooing Camavinga by placing a hefty £100-million price tag on the young star.
The 17-year-old midfielder continues to shine for Rennes this season in both Ligue 1 and the Europa League, and he has since attracted the spotlight from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester City.
According to French publication L’Equipe, the £100-million price tag attached to Camavinga is unprecedented for a defensive midfielder, particularly given his age.
However, the teenager already boasts considerable first-team experience, having played 18 matches in League 1 and four matches in the prestigious Europa League. He has also featured domestically in the French Cup, Coupe de la Ligue, and Tropheé Des Champions.
Rennes’ management knows it will be extremely difficult to hold on to Camavinga, whose contract expires in 2020, but is leveraging the demand for their midfield gem with an offer to football’s elite for top dollar.
Rennes, now third place in Ligue 1, have been a revelation in this season’s campaign, overperforming with a roster of emerging talents.
