Amazon had its best ever sales day yesterday as Cyber Monday shoppers bought hundreds of millions of items worldwide.
While the e-commerce giant provided no exact figure, it rarely gets into specifics about sales numbers, it said customers shopped at record levels globally between Thanksgiving last Thursday and yesterday.
Amazon’s own products also performed well as “customers purchased millions more Amazon Devices compared to the same period last year in Amazon’s Stores globally,” it shared in a press release. Among its best-performing items were the Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick 4K with Alexa Voice Remote.
Amazon’s Worldwide Consumer CEO, Jeff Wilke, said “We’re focused on making this holiday season more convenient than ever for our customers, especially given how short this holiday shopping season will be.”
Wilke’s added “We are thrilled that customers continue to come to Amazon in record numbers to discover what they need and want for the holidays. Thank you to our customers and employees all around the world for making this holiday shopping weekend the best yet.”
Highlights that marked the high consumption weekend include the purchase of more toys on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined than ever before, Amazon said. “Among the tens of millions of toys purchased during this time period, best-sellers included LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader’s Castle, Monopoly Game: Disney Frozen 2 Edition and Hasbro games such as Jenga, Guess Who and Candy Land Kingdom of Sweet Adventures.”
Amazon Fashion also has its biggest ever shopping day on Cyber Monday while Amazon customers worldwide ordered more than 25 million home items on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, combined.
Additionally, an increase of four million more beauty products were purchased on Cyber Monday when compared to 2018, the company said.
Cyber Monday online sales generated US$9.4 billion, an increase of 19.7 per cent over last year, according to Adobe Analytics.
