Former Prime Minister of Barbados Owen Arthur will be laid to rest in a state funeral today, August 14.
The service will be held at the St Peter’s Parish Church in Barbados, beginning at 2:00 p.m. and be followed by the interment at the Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, Benn Hill in St Peter.
The funeral service is planned in accordance with Arthur’s wishes.
The funeral procession route is as follows: The cortege will leave Lyndhurst Funeral Home, Passage Road, St Michael, proceed through Bridgetown, make a one-minute stop at Parliament Buildings, then proceed to Speightstown via Kensington Oval, move along Mighty Grynner Highway, Highway One into Speightstown.
From Speightstown, the casket will be transferred from the hearse to a gun carriage which will take the body to the church.
The body of the late prime minister laid in state in the Parliamant Buildings from Wednesday until yesterday, allowing mourners to view the closed casket and sign the condolence book.

Owen Arthur, Barbados’ longest-serving prime minister died on July 27 after suffering heart-related complications. He was 70.
