Luxury all-inclusive hotel chain Sandals Resorts International (SRI) is offering to pay travel insurance costs for its guest as well as provide cancellation protection benefit as part of its ‘Travel Protection Plan – Insurance Is On Us’ programme.

In a press release SRI explained that the offer is retroactive to “all pre-existing Sandals and Beaches bookings made prior to October 6, 2020” and will continue until May 31, 2021.

“With its reimagined Book With Confidence programme in place, travellers can book their vacation and focus on what really matters — quality time with loved ones at the most luxurious resorts in the Caribbean.”

As such, guests who make reservations during this period will automatically have the insurance and cancellation benefits purchased on their behalf.

“Travellers making vacation plans to the beautiful Caribbean can feel more confident than ever about their trip to paradise thanks to these two new added perks to our Book With Confidence programme,” stated Adam Stewart, deputy chairman of Sandals Resorts International.

“We know couples and families alike are yearning for a much-needed Luxury Included® getaway, and we’re pleased to offer these benefits so they can book their vacations with an added layer of reassurance,” he continued.

Safe vacationing

Since May, when Caribbean countries began reopening their borders and lifted restrictions placed on the movement of people, 12 of 18 Sandals and Beaches Resorts have opened under strict COVID-19 protocols.

The hotel group believes that thus far it has proven that its Sandals and Beaches operations can go above and beyond to ensure guests enjoy their vacation with confidence — from arrival to departure.

Coverage and cancellations

As part of the ‘Travel Protection Plan — Insurance Is On Us’ programme, guests have a guarantee of payment for their medical expenses incurred as part of a treatment for illness, condition and/or accident. The policy treats COVID-19 the same as any other sickness.

In addition, the insurance policy covers the payment of transportation expenses to the nearest facility capable of providing treatment for a sickness or injury that is acute, severe or life-threatening. Should the need arise for an emergency medical evacuation the plan includes coverage of transportation expenses for guests to return home of up to US$100,000.

There is no exclusion for pre-existing conditions, SRI said.

“If a guest’s travel plans are delayed due to the guest being quarantined, the Travel Protection Plan — Insurance Is On Us reimburses expenses for additional accommodations, meal and local transportation. Maximum Benefit $200 Per Day, Per Person and up to $2,800,” the release outlined.

For guests who cancel their vacation at least 31 days before arrival, they will receive a full refund on their hotel reservation. Those cancelling 30-15 days before arrival will receive a combination of a 50 per cent refund and 50 per cent travel certificate for future travel to any Sandals or Beaches Resort within 12 months.
