iCreate appoints software developer as new head of training arm

iCreate Limited has appointed Dominic Summers president of its educational arm, iCreate Institute, effective June 7, 2021.

Summers is a software developer, product designer and digital trainer within the Code Fellows programme at iCreate.

Summers replaces company founder and chairman, Tyrone Wilson, as head of the division.

“My job is still President and CEO of iCreate Limited, the listed company,” Wilson said in a release.

In December 2020, iCreate announced several initiatives to expand the company to include real estate development and the acquisition of e-commerce company, Mobile Edge.

Wilson said, “We have now taken on a new structure and our other companies will either function as subsidiaries or divisions. Since inception, I have led the Institute, developing a number of programmes and forging international partnerships which has seen the training of thousands of individuals throughout the region. I am excited to have handed over the reins of the Institute to someone who has consistently shown the same level of passion as I did in the beginning.”

Summers told Caribbean Business Report on Friday that “The focus of the institute now and moving forward are digital skill sets.

“We’ve strategically partnered with and have acquired licensing from two international training programmes to highlight this – the Digital Marketing Institute (DMI) and Code Fellows. These programmes allow us to bring international standards of digital training to the local marketplace and we’re excited about the possibilities we’ll be able to help our students, both in Jamaica and throughout the Caribbean, attain,” he said.

He added, “Our partnership with the DMI will allow us to offer around 15 new courses, bringing globally recognised certification in an affordable format.”

Summers said iCreate is working closely with Code Fellows, based in Seattle, Washington, “to deliver the highest level of rapidly evolving coding and cybersecurity courses to be directly led and taught by myself based on work experience as software development and digital product designer. We also look forward to working with the business community, crafting training packages that suit each individual company’s needs, providing maximum upskilling of our labour force.”

Summers’ work experience spans software development in early stage startups in South Florida to consulting as a digital product designer.

Wilson said that Summers, has “first hand experience in relation to the opportunities that are presented from the completion of short-term intensive training programmes, not only for students, but the entire startup ecosystem.

“He has now taken command of the iCreate Institute after changes were made to management so as to pivot and expand coming out of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.”
