GB Energy-Texaco Jamaica recently contributed JM$1 million to the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) COVID-19 Response Fund.
By donating to the fund, GB Energy has added its support to a cause that aims to assist Jamaicans who are most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
“We chose to donate to the PSOJ… because we wanted to ensure that we could directly impact in a positive way the most vulnerable among us who really need assistance,” Bela Szabo, CEO of GB Energy-Texaco Jamaica, explained.
The PSOJ will, as a result, allocate the funds to boosting the country’s health services and food security efforts. In addition, the business lobby group will use pooled donations to purchase personal protective equipment for front-line health and emergency workers.
In April, the PSOJ launched the COVID-19 fund with the goal of raising JM$250 million to assist Jamaica’s fight against the virus. A multisectoral initiative, the fund is a collaborative effort of the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS), JMMB Joan Duncan Foundation, Sagicor Foundation Jamaica, the American Friends of Jamaica, with the PSOJ as project lead.
