Some 50 Caribbean producers will get the chance to showcase their products over two days when the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) launches its first virtual expo event, Absolutely Caribbean, unlocking the profit potential of the Caribbean’, which will run November 17–18, 2020.
Just last week the agency announced the launch of the event, noting that it has witnessed a growing demand for Caribbean consumables and would like to take advantage of this trend.
“We have seen a growing trend for Caribbean food, beverages, and natural products across Europe in the last few years, which presents a real opportunity for us. In the UK alone, Caribbean food is now estimated to be worth £97 million with the number of Caribbean restaurants in the last year having grown by 144 per cent,” said manager of competitiveness and export promotion Dr Damie Sinanan.
Having witnessed the successful staging of a three-day trade show and conference which took place in Germany last year, Caribbean Export has collaborated with the European Commission and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to curate a similar experience but make it ‘Absolutely Caribbean’.
For this inaugural staging, Caribbean Export has also partnered with Shaun and Craig McAnuff, co-authors of cookbook Original Flava, who will host a live cooking demonstration to showcase the versatility of featured products. Born in South London with Jamaican heritage, the brothers have found great success with their Caribbean food and lifestyle platform.
The expo has also gained the support of the West Indies Rum & Spirit Producer’s Association (WIRSPA), an umbrella group for distillers across the Caribbean, which will host a session on premium alcoholic drinks from the Caribbean in collaboration with the Rum and Spirits Academy of Europe.
There will also be a presentation by European consumer goods and retail experts to discuss the latest insights on fast-moving consumer goods within the UK, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Attendees to the virtual expo will have the opportunity to schedule meetings with producers from a variety of categories — sauces and condiments; alcoholic drinks; natural, plant-based products; and nutraceuticals.
